General use

Use subagents for huge tasks

Split a large job into independent pieces with clear owners.

A central task branching into three connected workstations.

When a task is huge, tell the agent to use subagents to divide the work. Research, implementation, and an independent review can often be separate jobs. Give each one a concrete result to bring back.

The main agent should still own the finished result. Ask it to combine the findings, resolve disagreements, and check that the pieces work together. Splitting the work is useful when the pieces can actually proceed independently.

Try it

  1. Describe the overall result and ask for a sensible division of work.
  2. Give each subagent a bounded task with a clear responsibility.
  3. Have the main agent integrate and verify the final result.

A prompt to steal

This is a large task. Use subagents for independent pieces, with clear responsibilities. Coordinate their work, resolve any conflicts, and verify the combined result before calling it finished.
